takako_lTakako has been in Brighton and Hove for seven and half years. She does a lot of things. She runs a community café, teaches Japanese, supports bilingual children with SEAL and has a Japanese Art market stall.

What brought you to Brighton and Hove?

I got married to someone from Brighton and Hove who I met in Japan.

What’s your favourite place in Brighton and Hove?

The beach because it relaxes me, you can feel nature there. Also Japan is an island surrounded by sea and all seas connect to the wider world.

What are you proud of?

I’m proud of a lot of things – I’m proud of myself; I’m doing well living in a country that is not my own and where English is not my first language. I have achieved high qualifications in the UK and I’m working. I’m proud of the good friends I have made here and I’m proud of my daughter.

What do you think Black and Minority Ethnic people have contributed to Brighton and Hove?

They have introduced different cultures to Brighton and Hove. This gives an understanding and respect for other cultures.
