It is 2017, and with the coming of a brand new New Year comes the sad news of the death of a prominent BME activist, Tam Framroze (1941-2017), resident of Brighton and Hove.

Tehmtan (Tam)  Framroze came to Britain from Zanzibar, Africa, in 1964.  He worked at the University of Sussex, where he met his wife Marian.

He became Brighton’s mayor (first and only Mayor of colour in Brighton?) in 1994/95, and was instrumental in the creation of the BMECP (Black & Minority Ethnic Community Partnership), he was also an Alderman of the city and a Labour Councillor for Coldean in Brighton.
